International Mobility Days 2025: Deep Dive into Traffic Management and C-ITS in Vienna

Exploring real-world applications of cooperative mobility technologies across Austria’s transport networks

From 19th to 21st November, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber hosted the International Mobility Days 2025 in Vienna. As part of the event, a diverse set of excursions offered participants hands-on insights into cutting-edge mobility technologies. One of these excursions focused on traffic management and on critical and public communication systems, including Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS).

Together with Wiener Linien, AustriaTech provided participants with an in-depth look at how C-ITS technology is being implemented in Vienna’s tram network. Using AustriaTech’s mobile.LAB, the real-time communication between C-ITS Roadside Units and the On-board Units installed in trams was visualised live, giving visitors a direct view into cooperative mobility solutions. This demonstration introduced participants to innovative vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and showed how C-ITS contributes to safer and more efficient urban mobility. The excursion also included exclusive visits to ASFINAG’s Traffic Control Center and to Frequentis. Both organisations showcased how they manage traffic and communication technologies across Austria’s road networks and public transport systems—key components of the country’s critical infrastructure.

Throughout the day, attendees gained valuable insights into integrated mobility infrastructure, digital traffic management, and emerging technologies that are shaping the future of smart and connected mobility.
